Varicose veins can be both painful and unsightly, and, naturally, many people want to take steps to deal with them. If this is something you’re in the process of preparing for, here are some of our top tips and advice before you undergo your varicose vein treatment.
Existing medication usage
Before you undergo any type of treatment for your varicose veins, you must consider your current health and any medication you already take. Ask your doctor whether you can continue taking your usual medication or if you should pause it before the procedure or treatment. Qualified and knowledgeable doctors should discuss this with you, but if they don’t mention it, be sure to ask.
Eating and drinking
Under normal circumstances, you can eat and drink as you usually would before the treatment. Make sure you follow your doctor’s orders, though. If they recommend drinking more water than usual, for example, ensure you actually do it. The more hydrated you are, the better!
Washing
You don’t need to have a shower specifically before the treatment, but many people like to feel as fresh and clean as possible, especially before undergoing surgery. You may wish to shower before the procedure, but avoid using any moisturisers or cream.
Clothing
On the day of your varicose vein treatment, we recommend wearing comfortable and loose-fitting clothes. Our priority is your comfort, so there’s no need to dress to impress! We also recommend bringing some compression socks with you so you can pop them on straight afterwards.
Transport
It’s only natural to feel nervous before any type of treatment and you may wish to take a sedative before arriving. If you do, make sure that you have arranged for someone to drop you off and collect you afterwards. Your safety always comes first.
